Flock

Ok. I have finally taken some time and given this browser a chance. I know what you’re thinking: “What took you so long?”

In all fairness, I did check out Flock in it’s early, early days. At that time, I saw promise, but it wasn’t quite ready for primetime. Though it’s still in Beta, this thing feels solid.

I am just amazed at all it can do. It is built for Macs and Mac people. I mean no slight to my Windows friends, but it just feels “so right” and familiar for anyone who has used a Mac. It’s intuitive and delivers those things most needed for this Read/Write web. Beyond “Think Different(ly)”… This puppy does the thinking for me!

Blogging is simple and effortless. Flock provides a small window to write your post in, then connects directly to my Wordpress Blog, shows the list of my categories, allows for tagging, and voila! there it is on the site.

Using Photobucket or Flickr makes it painless to upload photos, and then makes them available for use in blog postings.

RSS subscription is easy and organized (dare I say, I might quit using Bloglines?).

And I have not even begun to “join the Flock community” and share my bookmarks or photos… that is for another day.

There are hundreds of extensions available and I’ve already started customizing this “browser of my dreams” into and even more robust “powerhorse”.

Goodbye, Firefox… it was fun while it lasted.

Welcome to the flock. Safari could take some lessons. Firefox version 2 is going to be incorporating some flock aspects but I don’t think it will compare.

My favorite feature is the del.icio.us integration with favorites. They are no longer in two different places!

I myself tried flock in the early stages but there was something significant missing and can’t remember now what it was. The idea of flock always sounded promising from the beginning. I will have to give it another try.

I have to admit I’m not impressed with the features, or lack thereof, currently in the works for firefox 2. My favorite aspect, by far, about firefox is its extensions and the fact that so many exist. One of my absolute favorites being greasemonkey.

I agree with Michael, Safari could really take some lessons, from either firefox or flock, for that matter.

I find it interesting that you feel sadness at moving on from firefox, maybe bloglines. I felt it to moving from safari, to firefox and now I am starting to move on to flock. Still can’t give up bloglines I check both. These tools helped us create a community and I guess we feel some loyalty as they were pioneers in open source and ease of use.

I loved using Flock last week when I was a participant in a workshop and I could blog on the fly! I am hooked. I’ve only just begun using the basic extensions. Can’t wait to rip into all the options. Thanks for sharing.

I tried Flock for a month. Cool design but so much slower than Mozilla.

I’m back to Mozilla and using NewsHatch (an amazing RSS tool) for my feeds.

    Enjoy. Trust me.

    Bob,
Congratulations on your new position. You are already an incredible mentor and source of inspiration for me and so many others. I look forward to the coming years as you share what you are learning with the rest of us.
Also, you talked me into trying Flock again. It’s much better than it was a few months ago. Thanks.

Hey Bob, welcome to the Flock! Glad to hear that more and more teachers and people in the learning world are interested in the browser. Please send me an email because I’d love to start asking you folks more questions.

    Cheers,
