Ewin and his people design a five point strategy:

  • Identify key user groups: librarians, student teachers, parents… some of who they chose (people you want)
  • Identify and understand your key users & influencers (people who want us)
  • Let key users evangelise… but not too long
  • Turn your evangelists into trainers (as fast as you can) TeachMeet Roadshow (Ewin created)
  • Support bottom-up and emergent behaviors

Emergent Behaviors (”light touch, huge impact”)

  • Lead by example
  • Lead by reminding
  • Provide adequate support
  • Lead by mandate (as final resource)
  • Personal and school benefits compliment each other (doing not to add something, but to replace)

Don’t overplan… fear can be good

“I don’t like TeacherTube” because it’s fake” — Ewan

What motivates kids to put so much time into things?

Audience is very important

What is the role of the teacher?

Emerging technologies make the biggest impact… new tech has the interest… when that falls off… less effective

Classroom displays… people will only look at what their friends have done… Blogs, however, Rule!

We’ve gone from the printing press to “one-click web”

Can’t use a blog just to give your kids an audience… can use it for assessment…. comments could be “2 stars and a wish”… leave 2 kudos, and one thing to work on. Assessment.

Flickr can be a formative assessment as well.
“Story in Five Frames”

It’s not about the tech… it’s all about the teach.

But the tools give opportunities

What lessons can be learned from their personal spaces?… We shouldn’t be using their space… it’s like invading their playground… but we should look at them and see what is working

The Consolarium

Myst!

Creating games!

Missionmaker… makes grids of games.

Discover things by what is there already.

Don’t think, try…
