I was just listening to the Seedlings from the previous month. Wow. I am already looking up skype.

I just returned from our Etech conference in Ohio and am very excited about technology, namely podcasting and blogging in my room. I’ve recently set up moodle and am learning in that environment. However, I am very interested in Blogging and getting my students “blogs” out for the world to see. But I am slightly worried about the things most teachers are worried about, predators I guess. I know that in Wordpress, my students have different web names that appear as opposed to their real names, but how do you have it set so that you can review incoming responses, is that possible through wordpress?

Anyway, I’ve added you to my “Favorites” and will keep checking in. Way to go.

I always enjoy listening to the three of you discuss the topics of the day, as well as your great “Geek of the Week” ’s!
Your work to communicate your learning to the larger educational community is much appreciated!

Comment about the podcast feed & episodes, though:
I’m enjoying the podcast of Will Richardson’s online address (was this during the K12 conference?).
Apparently this was an accident to actually podcast this, since I see that the next episode includes “fixed”. I appreciate it, nonetheless.

Question about Skype: I am not allowed to use Skype on my school computer. Here’s the reason: (I’m curious whether you or anyone else has heard of such a thing, or experienced some resistance like this)
The Skype “network” has no hardware but the users’ hardware. If I use Skype at school, I am basically using the District’s bandwidth. That’s obvious, but this is apparently true even if I don’t have Skype running - if it’s on my machine, I am allowing my computer, and thus the District’s hardware, to be used as part of the network necessary for others around the world to use Skype.
    Any ideas on this?

Wow Ed, I’ve never heard of this aspect of SKYPE. However, I will ask around. I feel that SKYPE uses a lot of resources when I am in SKYPE and using it. Actually, I’ve not looked at my CPU usage, but will. As far as being on my school network and hogging bandwidth when SKYPE is unopened I am sure I would have heard about that from my network guys. I’ll check. Thanks for your comments. Cheryl

Just found a good reference article about SKYPE,.. I did not realize! Basically, turn SKPYE off when you are not using it or your skype/computer will be come a supernode.
