Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes! and… Latest Happenings

August 13th, 2006 · 9 Comments

Hello all! I’ve been rather quiet on the “blogging front” for a while now, and just thought I’d check in, and update the latest happenings.

It’s been a very busy time of late, with many changes. The biggest change is that I have made the transition out of the 3/4 Multi-Age classroom and into the computer lab, as Technology Integrator. This is a bitter/sweet change: exciting and challenging, but not without some sorrow, as I leave my class behind in Room 208.

I will be replacing my good friend, Cheryl Oakes, as she moves on to her new exciting position as District Technology Coordinator.

I am excited about taking that next step in integrating technology into the classroom, and expanding my learning. There is, of course, tons to learn and my mind is spinning with all the possiblities!

The summer has been mostly filled with Technology courses as I continue towards getting my Technology Endorsement and has left little time for Podcasting. Hopefully that will change soon!

In the meantime, please check out the article over at Apple’s Education Site, featuring the work from the Students of Room 208!

Congrats, Bob, on your new job. Your district is lucky to have you and Cheryl. Best of luck to you. We should start up a York County Tech Integrators group!

    Greetings from South Texas!

I found your site(s) via the apple site. Thanks! Refreshing. I’m not typically enthused by the quality of teacher sites out there but I really like the quality of the work you’re doing. I’ve posted your feed link and will be keeping up.

I’ve been working as the Campus Technology Facilitator and the Read180 teacher at an elementary school.

I’m planning on starting a podcast this year with my Read180 students. I look forward to learning from you!

Congrats to you and Cheryl! I’ve enjoyed reading and hearing your creative juices flow together and enhance each other’s learning.
You all have certainly helped me to grow and learn.

I feel a tad bit sad that the “Room 208 Podcast” will be changing significantly!

I’m hoping that you will probably try and do some sort of podcast as a school. I’m in a situation where I will have more freedom to do blogging and podcasting during a certain portion of my day that I will probably have some students that aren’t normally in my room. Maybe we can learn from each other’s situation. This is different from your 208 situation, where it can be totally integrated in the rest of your instruction. You know what I mean?
The way that I did this last year (similar situation) was that my regular students had some blogs, but those that I had during that “special” time slot were able to blog a lot more.
I’m hoping to improve my pedagogy this year, so it feels more “vital” to all of us involved, but it’s kind of qwerky, either way.

Be sure to let us know how you are able to make your new position work for your professional goals!

Hi Ed, What I used to do with a large group was use think.com for blogging, there are many built in safe guards, the kids monitor one another and they can converse with kids from around the world. It is a free site from Oracle and only for schools. It is a closed site except for teachers and kids.

I’m very impressed with the use of technology in an elementary classroom. I’m a teacher in East New York and would like to do more to incorporate technology in the classroom. I noticed you had a Photo Club on your class website. Do you have any suggesstions for ways to have a Photo Club with limited access to cameras (disposable)?
